if I could say goodbye again
i wouldn't say it with a frown
or while looking down
at my checkered shoes.
i wouldn't be distracted
with thoughts of today's laundry
or the peach pie in the oven
or the rain clouds passing by
or a million mental weeds.
if I could say goodbye again
it would sound a bit like sorry
for all the pain that i have sewn
and the prideful things i said
and the times i made you sad
i try to be an angel,
but my wings are still in training,
with some patchy spots called sin.
if I could say goodbye again
it could never be too long
i don't care if it is teary
i don't mind if i look small
i won't heed the people looking
or the minute clock that's ticking
oh not at all.
i would ask for a reunion
i would jot the date right down
i don't mind if it is late
or a million miles away,
just to have. and to hold.
and to smile, when i'm cold
without you
-----------------------------------------
random poem:
you have put, the silver in my cloud
you're my muffler when i'm loud
my bandaids when i hurt
the lengthy to my curt
you're the dimples in my smile
and the modern in my style,
you're the chocolate in my milk
the shimmer in my silk,
and the bubbles on my soap.
you're my handy pocket clown
and my up when i am down
you're the cheeky in my wink
and the lightbulb when I think
you're my shade when it is hot
and my happy tickle spot
you're the ribbon in my dress
and the cleaner of my mess,
the eraser on my pencil
the squiggle on my cake
the perfect picture-take
the nickel on the ground
the prize in lost-and-found,
you're the model for my art,
and the keeper of my heart.
you're the curvies in my smile
and the tinkles in my laugh
you're the vowels in my nouns
and the jewels in my crowns
you're the wind in my willow
and the stuffing in my pillow,
you're the gloss that makes things shine
and you're the only one that's mine!
------------
we reap what we sow
and i pick you
a seed in a hard kernel
holding in your heart an entire lifetime
of bloom and warmth and water.
i hold you in my hand, tinier than my fingernail,
but one day you will be so big you will hold me in the palm on your shade.
